As the situation surrounding the Coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to unfold, we want to assure you that the safety, health, and wellbeing of our guests, staff, and associates remain our number one priority at UNICO 20º87º Hotel Riviera Maya. We have been closely following and adhering to the guidelines and recommendations issued by the World Health Organization (WHO), the Centers for Disease Control (CDC); there have been no reported cases of COVID-19 linked to this property.

In light of this global emergency and heightened travel restrictions across several countries, we have made the careful decision to temporarily close UNICO 20º87º Hotel Riviera Maya between March 25 to April 30, 2020 as part of our continued efforts to mitigate the spread of the virus. The hotel will reopen its doors and welcome guests on May 1. At this time, we wanted to reassure you of our continued commitment to work with you through this time. 

If you booked your stay directly through our website or call centers for travel between March 25 to April 30, 2020, please contact us at 1-682-514-4065 for any changes. If you booked through a third party, please reach out to your travel provider to discuss your booking. 

With growing concerns around the coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic, we will continue to follow the lead of public health authorities and the national government at this important time. We have communicated directly with team members as to next steps and continue to monitor this situation closely. The safety, health, and wellbeing of our guests, partners, and employees are top priorities. We have been closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation, and following the lead of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO), government agencies, and internal teams to stay on top of this evolving situation. According to the most recent information from the CDC, for the majority of people, the immediate risk of being exposed to the virus that causes COVID-19 is thought to be low. With that said, we would like to share the following information in order to keep you updated:



We want you to feel confident and comfortable when traveling to UNICO 20°87° Hotel Riviera Maya, and to enjoy your vacation with peace of mind. 

We continue to follow and reinforce internationally recognized regulations regarding guest and employee sanitation, and have implemented additional preventive and precautionary measures in place in the interest of our guests’ and employees’ health and wellbeing; these include:

  • Increased and additional cleaning and disinfection of all guest rooms, offices, back-of-house areas, common areas, air conditioning units, and surfaces throughout the hotel using Ecolab products.
  • Continued training and implementation of global standards of sanitation set forth by third parties, such as Ecolab
  • Reinforcement and documentation of employees' handwashing requirements and use of alcohol-based sanitizer, frequently and rigorously according to a strict protocol.
  • Continued use of masks and gloves by the required food-handling employees according to the protocol.
  • Limiting physical contact such as handshakes.
  • Encouraging correct handwashing technique and use of hand sanitizing gel among guests.
  • Additional staff training on how to closely monitor and identify any flu or virus-associated symptoms, and reporting it to local authorities.
  • Continued staffing of an onsite doctor 24/7.


While there is no travel advisory for the Riviera Maya, we continue to review the cancellation policy based on the latest updates from the global & local authorities. To provide you with further peace of mind, if you book your hotel stay between March 11 and April 30 for travel until December 15, 2020, you may change your hotel stay dates once up to 24 hours prior to arrival with no penalty for travel up to December 18th, 2020 (a difference in rates may apply, this is subject to availability). 


For guests traveling from the high-risk areas listed as per the updates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), we will allow rescheduling the hotel stay within one year from the original travel date or canceling hotel reservations without any penalty. If you are traveling from a country that has implemented a government travel restriction to our destination, please contact your booking source to discuss options. If you request a refund and your booked rate applies to it, please consider that due to the current situation it may take  45 days or more. We will attend each request in the order it has been received.
